Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Soft in the middle, crisp at the edges — a foolproof chocolate chip cookie recipe you'll come back to again and again.

Everyone needs one truly reliable chocolate chip cookie recipe, and this is mine. Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes makes a real difference in how the cookies bake up — thicker, chewier, and less spread out.

Ingredients

  • 340 g chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 150 g brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 225 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 375 g all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. 1

Cream the butter with both sugars until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.

  2. 2

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla extract.

  3. 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt, then mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.

  4. 4

Fold in the chocolate chips. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

  5. 5

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Scoop dough onto lined baking sheets and bake for 10–11 minutes until the edges are golden.

  6. 6

Cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Tips

Slightly underbake the cookies — they'll continue to set on the hot pan after you take them out of the oven.
